Quick and Easy Baked Tacos!

This is a great recipe for those evenings when you’re just at the end of your rope but need something for dinner that the kids will love!

Hubby found this recipe on Facebook, but can’t remember where.  If you know the source, please let me know so that I can give credit.

1 pd. ground hamburger

1 pkg. taco mix.  I use the low sodium

2/3 C. tomato sauce

1 can refried beans

1 box taco shells

grated cheese.

Cook your hamburger meat and add 1 pkg. of taco mix.  Substitute the 2/3 cup water with 2/3 cup of tomato sauce.  Add your refried beans.  I like adding the entire can, hubby prefers adding just a little over half.  So you can decide which your family would love.  Heat mixture.

image (2)

I promise it tastes better than it looks! Smile

Spoon into hard taco shells.

Top with grated cheese.

image (3)

Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and shells are warm.

Serve with lettuce, tomato, guacamole……

YUMMY!

I count carbs.  Well….I’m SUPPOSED to count carbs.  Carbs=sugar.  This is a fairly low carb meal.  And if you use low fat meat and low fat cheese, you have a win win!

Enjoy!

A New D.I.Y. Chandelier!

Rarely am I silly enough to see something that I really love and say “I could MAKE that!”  Until I saw this particular chandelier.

photo from houzz.com

Photo from Houzz.com

It retails for $425.00.

As many things are, it wasn’t as simple as I had imagined it would be.  I searched for months for the baskets and finally found them at Junk Hippy.   Then there was the whole “hubby”  thing.  I know nothing about lighting and how to wire it, so I really needed his help.   Getting him on board wasn’t easy.  Lets just say he doesn’t have the same vision and imagination that I do.

But FINALLY…..it’s finished!  We just wired it the other night!

chandelier6

Here it is!  Mine is only four baskets wide.  Normally, I’m big on the uneven numbers thing.  It DOES usually look better.  But as it happens, I think mine works perfectly!

We started with a 2x4 56” long.

My husband used his router to create a channel on the top of the board so the wires wouldn’t show.  We priced light kits, for a look similar to the chandie in the Houzz picture, but they were pricey.  We finally settled on porcelain light sockets instead.  Holes were drilled through the wood , the baskets were attached, and then the sockets were attached.  Then hubby wired the entire chandelier and we faced the larger problem…..

PhotoGrid_1383608704806

How to hide all of that wiring and swag it waaayyy over to the original ceiling fixture.  We have a two story house and moving it wasn’t an option.

We tried EVERYTHING to hide that darn wiring.  Nothing really worked.  Finally, hubby sat and wound jute twine around the wiring to hide it. Bless his heart, it took forever!  He tried his best to convince me that we should swag it through the new, and the old hook.  Uuhhh, no go, hubs.  So we’ll be removing that other hook and patching the ceiling.

I am THRILLED with the look of my farmhouse chandie!

It works perfectly with my new décor!

And now…..looking at this picture….I’m sure that I’ll be painting those table legs!

chanelier2

I painted my board with A.S. Old white and Paris Grey.  I also added the same colors to all four of my baskets.

All I can say, is you know you have it “right” when you walk in a room and it just makes you smile!  And my dining room puts a BIG smile on my face!

Have a wonderful week!

Fall Flowers In the Living Room

It’s amazing what I find every time I clean the closet in the sewing room.  It’s like the “stuff” has a mind of its own and multiplies when I’m not looking.  I found these cute paper flowers that I had forgotten I had.   I bought them last year on sale at H.L.  Another few weeks and it would have been a little late to enjoy them!

And it just so happened that I had a new demijohn that I had picked up a few weeks earlier at a friends sale.  Just sitting there waiting on me to do something with it.

Other fall goodies found their way  in my transfer ware bowl.

I’ve rearranged my fall vignettes I don’t even know how many times.  But that’s okay!  It’s the type of decorating that I really enjoy.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!  It was cloudy all day here.  And we’re apparently expecting Spring like storms tomorrow night.  NOT looking forward to that!

My Halloween Mantel

Halloween is almost here and I haven’t even shared all of my décor with you!  I wanted everyone to at least see my family room mantel.

halloween altered

You can’t go wrong with you Halloween décor when you start with mostly black and white.

Nothing new this year, just some old favorites.  Like my skeleton and owl.

I use a battery operated tea light in my votive holder.  It looks just a little bit magic when it’s on!

Then there’s my favorite silver glittered skellie.  One of those ultimate bargains that Heather found after Halloween a few years ago.  Notice the book title to the left.  Appropriate for the season!

Finally, a good look at my black/white/grey rag wreath.

A look at Heather’s front porch décor.  LOVE the old cart.  For those of you who live in the OKC area, it came from Horn’s Seed Co. after they closed.   Heather bought it from another junker who (literally) went dumpster diving behind the store after it closed.  Darn it!  I wish it had been us!  When it comes to good junk, there are no rules….or dignity!  Smile

The Power of Paint, More of my Dining Room and Kitchen

I finished the wall above my dining room settee.

new12

Most of the iron stone I purchased this last weekend.  I kinda swiped the shutters from Heather and repainted them.

new11

Paint love!  I used Sherwin Williams pure white first.  The A.S. French Grey then sanded.  That’s it.  Gotta love that chalk paint!

new10

Hubby made the board my new bull is hanging on.  I can’t take credit for this fabulous finish!  This is a Heather creation!  I LOVE it.  All chippy and crackled and all of those yummy colors showing through!  All I did was throw a little walnut stain around the edges and sanded.

All in all, this new wall arrangement was a cheap redo.  My favorite décor that I’ve added in a long time!  Kind of a combination of French and Farmhouse Chic!

On the opposite side of the dining room…..

Talk about a change!  Here’s my smaller wall a couple of years ago.

007

It was a bit of a shame getting rid of that harlequin wall.  That thing took me FOREVER to paint!

And here it is now……

new7

new8

Ironstone and transfer ware love!

new4

Baby bull moved to the kitchen window.

new3

We got rid of the dated track lighting and installed these lights from Lowes.  They were cheap I mean cost efficient. Smile

new1

A new chandelier repositioned over the farm table is in the works!  Still wondering if I should paint the bottom half of the table??  Those huge chunky legs are so awesome and I think they might show up better if they were painted and “faux finished” to look all chippy and crackled.

Another before.  Moving the table also allowed me to position the gray chairs on either end of the table.

And for now…..

new2

My dining table décor is very simple.  I’m enjoying the new neutrals and simpler look in my dining room and kitchen!

Joining Common Ground for Be Inspired Thursday/Friday!

Have a wonderful rest of the week!
