We ARE…..DIY Diva’s!

If there is one thing that this lousy recession has done that is positive, it is this bigger than life DIY movement among women like all of us.

We haven’t just taken lemons and made lemonade.  We are WOMEN!  We have taken lemons and made sweet,  sparkling, yummy lemonade and then shared it with each other through our blogs.  And isn’t that a wonderful thing?

Fantastic, beautiful, low cost, and sometimes even no cost projects that are just amazing.

If there are two industries that are thriving, it must be paint and…..well…..drop clothes. :)   Who’d uh thunk it!

I’m currently making drop cloth chair slipcovers for two chairs.  Not only that, the chairs came from a swap that I did with a friend.  She now has some new accessories and I have two new chairs!  Win win for both of us and loooowww cost to transform my new chairs.

Some of us have drug out sewing machines that we haven’t seen in years, dusted them off, and gotten busy.

Slipcover parties, craft parties, on-line blog parties, new, cost conscious ideas every week in blogland.  The inspiration is endless.

Now, many of us are preparing for autumn.

We’re taking reuse, repurpose, and recycle to a whole new level.

Things that we may have had for years are taking on a whole new look.

When we do buy, it is often vintage.

And if we’re really really lucky…….everything we do is kitty approved!

So I guess the purpose of this post is just to say a big THANK YOU to all of you wonderful women out there who inspire me every single day to forge on with my projects.

  1. Um...am not sure am one of the women who do inspire you but thank you anyway! he!he!
I love the kitty approved test! should think of doing that!( now...where can I find a cat?...)

  2. Oops, my comment went somewhere but here, so I'll try again.
I was just sayin that you inspire me with all your wonderful projects and photos. Yes, it's true we are all DIY divas for sure and isn't it wonderful to have so much talent here in blogland!

I'm so glad that kitty approves. Your kitty looks like my Gizzy.

  3. I so agree with you! So many blogging women have inspired me with their dreams, ideas and talents! They have encouraged me and motivated me to forge ahead and to not be afraid to try new things.
    This is very cool!!

  4. Love this post... It is so true wiyh many blogs I visit....

  5. Your post always make me smile and feel good! Now I want to create something!

  6. Thank you for your inspiration, kitty approval is very important! And the hot glue industry should be booming, too.

  7. What a wonderful post Denise. I've learned so many things from all the beautiful blogs out there,(yours included) and been more inspired by them than I ever was by my favorite magazines and decorating books.
    I love kitties too :-)

  8. Denise you certainly amaze and inspire me, that's for sure. If you aren't making slipcovers then you are painting something wonderful. You are so right about the inspiration that we get from each other. And I love all the beauty that everybody surrounds themselves with, on so little money. I love to see the great finds that everyone finds, and I am spending a lot less money on magazines.LOL!

  9. OH, how I agree! We have banded together and refused to let {the lack of cash} stop us from making everything beautiful...I can check my reading list by the hour and find new inspiration or a new tutorial...just amazing and so nice.

Oh, and I should own stock in Valspar paint company...their Ultra Premium mixture in Divine Cream is all over the house now. Paint is such an easy and relatively inexpensive {at Lowe's} way to transform anything.

I used to only buy Sherwin Williams paint..that changed last year when I walked in and asked for my favorite mixture and it is now almost $50 a gallon!!!!!! I said, "See Ya!" and headed to Lowe's to see what they had.

Gosh, I wish you lived near me. I have my old frumpy upholstered chair that is sooooo comfortable that I cannot get rid of it. It's where I sit to crochet and hand sew. I keep saying I'm going to try my hand at making a slip cover and still haven't tried.

Maybe this winter I'll try it. I can with great satisfaction finally say that my studio {the upper level} and the main level of the house are 99% finished with decorating. I still need stuff to hang on the walls but I want to collect mirrors and that will have to happen gradually. The ceramic tile came in and is ready to pick up...now Thomas can build the hearth for the wood stove. The tile looks like wide plank wood flooring..it is beautiful. It would cost a small fortune to do a big room with it but it's perfect for this small-ish sized hearth.

Next week I'll start posting again with photos around the great room.

Hope you are having a good weekend...stop over when you have a chance.

    Stephanie ♥

  10. I just love resourcefulness! In myself and in others. Aren't drop clothes wonderful? I just can't resist using them in all kinds of projects! By the way, I love your sweet kitty. I have an orange and white one myself. He's not quite that large though!

  11. What a sweet post! You definitely have inspired all of us too! Two thumbs up for DIY Divas. {bloggy hug} Heidi

  12. I had to come back to your blog to read again about that chair you covered. That is just too good.
I really like the buttons around it. since I collect white & cream buttons that jumped out at me.

  13. I want to get new slipcovers!!! I am sick of the fabric on my sofa but, there's not a thing wrong with it. How I wish I could slip cover. You are so clever! Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve! I am ready to pull out the fall decor. I am so OVER summer & the heat. Charlene
