Playing Paper Dolls

If you’re old enough, you may remember McCall’s Magazine and Betsy McCall paper dolls.  I used to wait for the magazine every month so that I could cut out my paper dolls.  Times were certainly simpler then!  Little pieces of paper usually kept in a cardboard shirt box (at least at our house) made for hours and hour of fun.

I was actually rather surprised at how easily I found these on the internet!    If you are interested you can find them at www.tpettit.best.vwh.net .

I wonder if today’s little girls would find paper dolls fun to play with?    Probably not, the world has changed dramatically since then.

So……apparently my interest followed me into adulthood and has just been waiting until the right time to make an appearance.  I found myself fascinated with the paper doll stamping kits that are available.   About $15.99 each!  OUCH!  It’ll be awhile before I have a good collection!

Here are my little babies.

Now what to do with them?  I’m working on a way to work them into individual mixed media works of art.  Just haven’t figured it out just yet.  I’m also working on using collage pieces from my old photos collection and so forth to mix in.  Anyway….I’m having fun.  It’s been a long long time since I’ve had the time for projects like these!

In the news that’s as good as it can be under the circumstances department.  Heather paid a visit to her surgeon today.  It’s pretty bad when you’re on a first name basis with the staff!  Any way…….she will have to have ANOTHER hernia operation.  The date is pending at this time.  Her surgeon is hopeful that she can do the surgery laproscopically.  Heather was really worried that something else was wrong but there again her surgeon seems to be relatively certain that it’s the hernia that is causing all of her symptoms and problems.   More updates later.

Here’s hoping that everyone is having a wonderful week!

  1. Hey! You're both so welcome. I meant to stop by and leave you a comment so you'd know, but I had finals this week. It requires a carefully balanced schedule of studying, worrying, and consuming chocolate.

This is our third summer here so we've learned to expect extreme weather but HOLY COW!!!! You may have to go into the hand painted canoe business if this doesnt stop soon.

  7. Hi Denise, I've been praying for Heather, and you too! I remember Betsy McCall! Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I love the ones you created, and yes I see them in a future project too... maybe a mixed media theater for one of them? You'll think of something(s) wonderful. Blessings to you and to Heather, and I'll keep praying!!

    Big Warm Hugs,
