Saturday

At least I think it’s Saturday!  Oh yeah, it is, it’s 5:15 AM here.  I woke up at 4:30 AM and had to laugh at what I was thinking about.

My Mother wanted to be cremated.  Which she was.  And being the nontraditional type gals that we were, she did not want one of the traditional cremation urns that you purchase from the funeral home.

Heather and I made a trip to Hobby Lobby (yep you heard me right) Thursday to pick out something appropriate.  Hey, no kidding, the next time you’re there, take a look at some of the urns and just think about it…….you see!

So anywho, I suddenly woke up at 4:30 and thought to myself……..oh my gosh!!  I forgot to take the Hobby Lobby price tag off of the bottom before my brother took it to the funeral home!  Now that’ll make you laugh.  I just sat in bed and had a good chuckle!  Oh well, I think they’ve probably seen it all over time!

So….I’m talking to all of you and having a nice cup of coffee, or two…..

Yesterday was a better day!  We found tons and I mean a HUGE stack of old vintage family photos from way way back.  One of my passions as you may (or may not) know, so I was thrilled.  Some great memorabilia from way on back when my Grandpa (mother’s Daddy) was in the military!   Can’t wait to show you photos later!  There were also some silly funny letters that he had written to his sisters during that period.  Then we all just sat around, ate lemon cake (yum) kindly baked by a friend and just kind of chatted.  Very healing!

Again, thank all of you for your kind words and prayers.  You are truly my long distance friends!

Sorry……no pics. today.  I promise I’ll catch up though!

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

Denise

  1. Denise, I have been away from blogging for a few days and just read your past few posts. So sorry for what has been happening in your life. What a shock for your family. I hope you find peace in the fact that your mom probably didn't suffer. I would say that would be the best way, no long illness and the dread of knowing what is ahead. Harder of course for those left behind. I hope you find comfort in memories and friends and family surrounding you. Hugs, Pam

  3. OH Denise....I am sure your mother would be smiling over you worrying about the price tag still being under the bottom of the urn...you are so precious.

  4. Hello Denise,
I've haven't visited your blog for a couple of days so I was shocked and saddened by what I have read on your last few posts. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother and what you must be going through at the moment, I just can't imagine.
I'd like to think that your mother will be looking down and having a little chuckle at the price tag.
    Take care,
    Susie X

  5. Denise,I'm so glad that you found the pictures. I told my mother that that was the first thing I will be beating my sisters to when it comes time. I love old photos of my family members and she has a lot of them. I'm sure going through them and remembering was something that you all needed.
    Hugs to you,
    June

  6. Good for you Denise (Hobby Lobby rocks and your Mom would appreciate it, I'm sure)! I'm so happy you found your photos! I got our family photos recently from my Dad, and most of them, I had never seen. I adore them. Take care of you.

    Love,
    Sheila

  9. You have an amazing outlook on life. I am relieved to know that there are people out there besides me that can find the humor in little things. Although, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Best wishes and hugs for you.

P.s....I love your music...its totally frustrating my boyfriend because hes trying to watch a man show :)

  10. What a wonderful idea for the urn! Of course your mom would be an original. Going out in such style. Your mother left a pretty neat legacy to carry on.

Your blog has helped me keep grounded these past few days. Tomorrow my hubby goes in for spinal surgery. As you know it can be a little draining being a cheerleader when your nervous too. Anyway I headed out today and bought the latest David Sedaris book to read while I'm waiting at the hospital. I asked my son if he thought it would seem insensitive if I'm laughing in the waiting room. The way I look at it laughing IS the best medicine. We can't change facts so lets make the best of a lousy situation.

We're all out here thinking of you and your family.
    Kathy
