It’s been a lot like being in some alternate universe, this whole wedding thing. For about the past eight weeks, I’ve gone to bedding and gotten up thinking about what needed to be done next. I know…..that’s just part of it.
Now, it’s over. Unfortunately, other than tornadoes or some of the crazy hail storms we’ve had lately, we had the worst possible weather. HEAT! It was hotter than you-know-where here last weekend. Added to that was the extreme humidity and absolutely no (none) wind.
I’m not whining. Really! You get what you get and that’s what we got. Even with fans, it was sweltering inside the barn. Meaning that there was mostly one thing on everyone’s mind, including ours. Get the heck outta here as soon as possible.
Despite the heat, everything was beautiful. My pictures are few and pretty miserable. We should be getting some beautiful pics. from the photographer soon.
Our decorations looked just as we had hoped. The bright colors toned down considerably against the dark interior and looked perfect.
We didn’t do much of anything huge or elaborate, and that seemed to work out just fine. It went with our simple barn theme. We were fortunate to be able to use wood benches at the long tables. And just tried to ignore the metal folding chairs. You can only do so much with a small budget. Chairs, tables, and benches were provided at the barn.
I did digital images with love quotes on them (two sided) and glued them to bamboo skewers for the table decorations. All plants on the tables were planted in our gardens afterwards.
I incorporated vintage elements whenever possible. Like the baby shoes, linens, and the French sheet music. All candles had to be battery operated.
And old lunch box. Sweet potato vine provided an extra punch of color. I used birds and birds nests quite a bit.
Part 2 coming soon!
Denise
Oh...it looks like it was very pretty. Can't wait to see more photos.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so pretty and oh so very unique...something people will be talking about for a long time to come but those that know you knew it would be an eye candy feast.

I can't wait to see more. I am so glad everything went well even though it was hot.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to catch up on my Blog visiting today since I am still recovering from pneumonia in both lungs. I am almost well and hope to be back to creating at the end of this weekend!

ReplyDeleteReally wonderful créations ! I absolutly love your blog ! So good ideas ! Thank's ! I'll come back soon to sea more !
ReplyDeleteWell, we can't control the weather, but all the work you did in preparation for the wedding was all worth it. A limited budget is a good thing as it is one day. So many people spend so much money on a wedding and I never quite understood going into debt before you even start a life. Everything looks gorgeous and I am sure it went off without a hitch. Best wishes to you. Tammy
ReplyDeleteI love this! It is so unique and truly beautiful! Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteDenise, I got to meet your beautiful daughter this week! She stopped by here on her honeymoon -- what a wonderful surprise!! I know the wedding was gorgeous in every way, even if it was a bit steamy. Can't wait to see the rest of the photos!
ReplyDeleteHi Denise,
ReplyDeleteEverything looks grand!! And this weather has been soooo strange this year! Looks like all turned out well despite the hot temps. I love that you used gardening plants so you could plant them..that's so special. :0) I always thought the expense of fresh flowers was extreme for something that will not last but a few days....what you have done has much more significance.
I'm so behind [in blogland]...we are getting a lot of small projects finished around the house. I really don't know where the time goes in a day but I'm keeping after it so we can get this place whipped in shape. With Thomas gone most of the time until this February I just kind of froze at a certain point with progress...just impossible to do so much without his help.
So now I'm really excited to get stuff done!!! And get this place settled..it's hard to believe I've been in this house for a year as of May 1st.
Hugs,
Stephanie ♥
