Farm Table Love!

Who isn’t loving the farm house look!  Even Heather has jumped on board.  When she decided she needed a new dining table, reclaimed barn wood was at the top of the list.  She loves it.  I’m almost afraid to leave her alone at our barn.  She keeps looking longingly at that hundred year old wood!  Smile

So…..she found someone who sells reclaimed wood and purchased several pieces.  And had every intention of building a base.

Then she found this…..

Those curved legs?  I have to say, I was a bit skeptical with the barn wood.

Anywho……bye bye went the original top.

And the table was reassembled with the barn wood top.

We both love the look of a dark stained top with a painted bottom.

Gel stain is our favorite.  It’s so easy to work with.  And dark walnut……yummy!

Like I said…..yummy!

The base….?

tnfgd

YES!  It’s here!  Crème de Menthe Maison Blanche furniture paint for the base

sgdgdf

Pretty just like it is.  But with this look…..you gotta have that old chippy layered look.

sgdsfg

So Vanilla Maison Blanche furniture paint over the crème de menthe Maison Blanche furniture paint.

Then sanded.

Then the entire table received a coat of wax.

Briwax is one of my favorites.  Especially for table tops.  I use the clear Briwax on my farm table.

And here it is in the kitchen dining area.  Still a work in progress.  We’re looking for chairs.  I have to add fabric trim to her coffee sack café curtains.

jophjopj

Boy was I wrong about that base!  It looks fabulous!

More pics. later when everything is finished.

Both Old Masters gel stain and Briwax are available at Mungers Paint in OKC.

Heather and I poured up 4 ounce color samples of the Maison Blanche paint this afternoon.  Both the 4 oz. size and the quarts will be available at The Rink Gallery by the end of this week!  You are going to LOVE this paint!

jljlk

AND new colors of Maison Blanche paint coming in November!  Kelly Green, RED!!, and Turquoise! And…AND an Organza Shimmer coat.  Yummy!!  Hummmm….lets see….how many times can I use the word “yummy” in one post?  And we’re not even talking about food! Smile

Check out the full color chart HERE!  Wonderful color choices.   We’re going to have fun with this paint in the days….weeks….months….to come!  I’ll be doing plenty of posts with finished pieces.

And we will ship.  We do accept PayPal.

Exciting stuff going on around here. A brand new paint line.  AND the Christmas extravaganza barn sale coming up November 15th, 16th, and 17th!

Back In the Living Room

Finally…..I think I may be the last person in the blog world who wanted an Ikea Ektorp sofa to get one.  I have wanted one for several years.  I’m crazy for slipcovers, plus you just can’t beat the price.  It just so happens that Heather purchased one several months ago from someone on Craig's list.  She decided P.D.Q. that she HATED it.  WHAT???  Too hard, uncomfortable, blah blah blah…..   She finally saved up enough money to buy a sectional and GAVE me her sofa.  FREE!!!  I am one happy Mama.  Thank you, thank you, Heather.

It’s in the formal living room so who cares if it’s not the most cushy thing in the world.

I was a little nervous about washing the slipcovers.  In this house, it either goes in the washer and dryer or it gets the boot!  The slipcover already had some shrinkage from who ever had it before Heather.  I washed it in cold water, just a tiny bit of bleach, and then threw it in the dryer taking it out while it was still damp and taking it straight to the sofa.  It worked beautifully!

Fall pillows.  I bought these at T.J. Maxx at a bargain price WITH down inserts.  I can just make  new covers for other seasons.

20121022_170114

The other two, I made.  I wanted a tiny bit of a brighter blue on the middle back pillow but didn’t want to disassemble it so I sat in front of the T.V. last night and hand stitched the polka dot chenille over the other fabric.  Didn’t even take the insert out!

Then I was in a fun redo frenzy!

In My Living Room

Infusing color for fall and winter.  I’ve been adding a few additional touches to the living room.  Kinda  warming it up a little.

I made a few pillows to brighten up my neutrals.  Well…..and the blues.

Real mini pumpkins.  Left over from the barn sale.

I had fun creating a little fall vignette in my grape picking tray.

I like it on my vintage coffee table.

Some things stayed the same.

Others changed.  I found this botanical print at the Rink several weeks ago.  The frame was already painted.  I didn’t have to do a thing other than hang it.  $20.00!  That’s my kinda bargain!

mklml

I did a little rearranging in my flower seed box.

jkljlkj

My chippy old door is still a favorite.

And my subway art moved from the dining room to the living room.  I like the pop of the bold graphics with my Chevron chest.

Getting a new/old sofa today.  Heather ordered a new sectional for her living room so I’m taking her Ikea sofa.  Not getting rid of my vintage sofa though.  I’m taking it to our paint studio.  I just can’t let it go.  It has been in the family forever.  A good 65 years anyway.

Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

My Dining Room

So here’s the short story that led to my dining room redecorating.  When we were on vacation, I walked into the most gorgeous home décor store.  I could tell that I probably couldn’t afford a thing.  Then I saw “it”……the cutest settee.  High backed with a wing back style.  With little arms that swooped down.  And it was slipcovered in the perfect linen tone-on-tone beige ticking.  It was love at first sight.  I could just see it sitting against the wall in my dining room.  The only problem was the price.  $2800.00!  So I had to walk away.  Sigh…..I hadn’t wanted a piece of furniture that much in years.

Fast forward……I walk into The Rink one day…..and there it is!  Sitting there waiting for me.  The shape and size were perfect.  It was probably from the early 90’s and ugly as heck.  Upholstered in a horrible polished cotton hunter green and tufted to the hilt.  But it was gonna be mine.

It sat in all its ugliness until after the barn sale.  After which I have been working my behind off making her pretty!

vhjvjv

And here she is.  Worth every hour, every pin prick, every moment of indecision!  I love the way it turned out.  I finally decided to make my slipcover in drop cloth fabric.  Not only was it way cheaper, it was also neutral enough that I can change my pillows seasonally.

nlknmlk

As my slipcovering experience goes….(HAHA)….this one was the easiest yet.  I kept everything very clean and simple.  No ruffles.

ml;km

I’ve had the chalk board for awhile now.  It seemed HUGE, until I hung it on that big empty wall.  Then I was scrambling looking for other things to fill that huge space with.

nnlnkl

Most of the wording is painted on over chalkboard paint.  With the exception of the “Boo” and “Happy Halloween.”  As you can probably tell from the difference in color.

nlnkl

I bought the scale at our barn sale.  The vintage bowl was my mother’s.  The little owl under the cloche is just because. Smile

tn,;

I’m still unsure about the chandelier.  And the blue frame on the left is driving me nuts.  It may need to go, or it may just need something different hanging inside of it.

kjpo

It’s a breath of fresh air after years of the heavy looking buffet.  Not that there was anything wrong with it.  But 20 years is long enough.

tnmlk;

From the living room.

The other side of the room.

Now the only question is…..should I repaint the walls?  I was thinking a taupe/grey color.  Or should I just touch up what I already have.  Huummm…….have to think awhile on that one.

Enjoy your week!

And shopped well into the evening.

We have learned so much and will immediately be improving things like making those check out lines move faster and more efficiently.  And adding some heat for those chilly shopping days!

Soooo……..here’s the news!  After a wonderful fun weekend, and many requests from our shoppers AND vendors, we are having a Christmas Extravaganza!!  Nov. 15th, 16, and 17th!

The theme will be a Vintage Christmas!   And the food…….well……..lets just say that we are already scheming with our caterer extraordinaire, Chris, for an amazing Holiday themed food fest!

Vendors will be bringing their best Holiday gift and home decorating merchandise AND…….AND…….this isn’t concrete yet……but we are scheming to add MORE vendors.  The barn is FULL but we’re working on a plan that……oops!  it’s still a secret!   Shhhhh!!!!

More info. to come!  We can’t wait!!  Getting to decorate a 100 year old barn for Christmas……yep, it doesn’t get much better than that.
