Back In the Living Room

Finally…..I think I may be the last person in the blog world who wanted an Ikea Ektorp sofa to get one.  I have wanted one for several years.  I’m crazy for slipcovers, plus you just can’t beat the price.  It just so happens that Heather purchased one several months ago from someone on Craig's list.  She decided P.D.Q. that she HATED it.  WHAT???  Too hard, uncomfortable, blah blah blah…..   She finally saved up enough money to buy a sectional and GAVE me her sofa.  FREE!!!  I am one happy Mama.  Thank you, thank you, Heather.

It’s in the formal living room so who cares if it’s not the most cushy thing in the world.

I was a little nervous about washing the slipcovers.  In this house, it either goes in the washer and dryer or it gets the boot!  The slipcover already had some shrinkage from who ever had it before Heather.  I washed it in cold water, just a tiny bit of bleach, and then threw it in the dryer taking it out while it was still damp and taking it straight to the sofa.  It worked beautifully!

Fall pillows.  I bought these at T.J. Maxx at a bargain price WITH down inserts.  I can just make  new covers for other seasons.

The other two, I made.  I wanted a tiny bit of a brighter blue on the middle back pillow but didn’t want to disassemble it so I sat in front of the T.V. last night and hand stitched the polka dot chenille over the other fabric.  Didn’t even take the insert out!

Then I was in a fun redo frenzy!

Metal basket I bought at our barn sale. Filled with velvet pumpkins, faux rosemary, and coffee sacks.

My tiny little mantle.

Now the weather just needs to cool down a bit…….

  1. Hey Denise! You sure found some FAVOR with that slipcover couch! I bought one this time last year and I LOVE MINE! I'm very HAPPY for you! They are a GREAT PRICE, and I don't think they're uncomfortable...I've washed mine twice! They are so versatile! The fall pillows are FAB! You have a wonderful week! Roxie

  2. That is wonderful! I so wish I had slipcovers that I could throw in the washer and dryer. My furniture always has pet hair, I NEED slipcovers!! Love your pillows.

  3. Score! Great sofa and your decor is just beautiful!

  4. I love the look of the Ektorp sofa, Denise. My white slipcovered sofa has similar lines but is not an Ektorp, but is why I thought my Ektorp chair would go so well with it in the living room. I'm surprised the sofa isn't comfortable. I find the chair comfortable. Maybe its because I've had them for 15 years! : ) I had two and now my daughter has one. You can't beat the price of the slipcovers for them either.

  5. The sofa looks yummy and your living room is really beautiful!

  6. LOVE the metal basket with the velvet pumpkins! :D
