Aaahhh! The weekend!

I’ve really turned into a homebody hermit in the last few months.  It seems that I would rather stay home, fluff and stuff and play in Photoshop than just about anything else.  So…..it was with more than a little reluctance that I packed and headed out on the motorcycle with Hubby Friday morning.

Boy am I happy that I did!  Friday was a gorgeous day.  Just a little cool, but perfect for riding.  I just sat on the back, relaxed,  meditated, thought, and listened to my “tunes” courtesy of our satellite radio.  We were in Arkansas before I knew it.

That evening we went to dinner with a group of people and I discovered the most delicious summer time drink courtesy of one of the other girls.

A Pomegranate Martini!

FavoriteMartini(Pomegranate)Martini_20090527004751

Ooohhh!  What a wonderful drink!  But be careful, it’s one of those drinks that tastes all fresh and harmless but then you stand up and WHAM…….you realize you may have had a bit too much too drink.

All of us girls sat at one end of the table together and giggled and acted silly.  Most of the men were at the other end of the table.  My hubby sat next to me and silently, listened to all the silliness!  I’m sure it was like a mini soap opera.  We had great fun!

I never knew that there were so many different recipes for a Pomegranate Martini until I looked on the internet, but here is the closest that I could come to the one that we had.

  • 1.5 fluid ounces Pomegranate Syrup
  • 3 fluid ounces Vodka
  • 1 fluid ounce peach flavored Vodka
  • 1 ounce or a splash of orange juice

Shake to chill in an ice filled shaker and pour into a sugar rimmed Martini glass.

They are delicious and would make a wonderful “girlie” drink for any party.  Just watch the intake!  The last I saw of the party we were with, they were trying to decide how to put one of the girls on the back of the motorcycle and get her to the Motel without her falling off.  Yep….she was more than a little bit tipsy!

Saturday, we decided to ride to Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  It is such a unique and beautiful little town!

The town is filled with wonderful architectural features.  Flowers galore, Victorian homes.  That alone makes it worth the visit!

If you have never been……a word of advice.  Wear really comfy shoes.  You’re gonna need ‘em.  The town is very hilly and you will be doing a lot of walking up and down hill.

043

Cute shops are everywhere.  The last time I was in Eureka Springs was several years ago and I was not impressed with the shops.  This time it was just the opposite!

Hmmmm……I hear music.  Where could that be coming from?

046

It seems that we are in town the same weekend as the Blues Festival!   What an unexpected and delightful surprise!

059

Basin Spring park in the middle of town.  Are you worn out from all of the walking yet?  Sit down in the shade and catch your breath while you listen to the open air concert and take in your beautiful surroundings.

062

Oak Leaf Hydrangeas!  You gotta be kidding me!  I’ve always wanted to have one of those shrubs!  The one and only time I planted one I think I killed it with kindness!

063

Uuuhhh!  I wanna live up there in that house!  What a view of town, and look at the wild landscaping!

064

Lets walk up a little further and see what the view is like from up above.

WOW!  That was quite a hike!  You may need to sit in the shade again for awhile and catch your breath and cool off……..

………Okay…….let’s take a look at some more of the town!

073

Yes yes!  I know the music is wonderful!  But you can listen to it as we walk!  Come on now, we have shopping to do!

049

Can you believe it!   Even the alley ways are filled with beautiful perennials and wild flowers.

056

My feet are killing me!  There’s no stopping now though!  There could be something wonderful just up the hill and around that corner!

076

What amazing architecture!

047

Oooh! I found it!  The perfect shop!   The shop of all shops!  Calling my name!  Oh wait…that’s Hubby walking in ahead of me saying “oh Denise, you’re going to love this place!”

053

055

Beautiful plants flanking the door, just beckoning you to please, please enter.  You’ll love it, I promise!

Look at that ceiling!  She has suspended doors and windows from chain!  On the ceiling of the ENITRE shop.  Genius I tell you, pure genius!  Okay….and a heck of a lot of work.  But worth it in my eyes anyway!

counter

Her check-out counter…..made entirely of old doors!

countertop-envirotex

The top of the counter.  An old door, covered in old vintage images, then coated with a product that she called Envirotex.   Again, pure genius.

So…..I’m stopping here for today!  I know, I’m a terrible tease!  I have more pics. to take and download of things that I purchased , and then I’ll give you the name of the shop and the link to her blog!   She is one very talented lady!

Until tomorrow!

Denise

  5. Oh, I was so exited to see you post about Eureka. I've been dying for a road trip and it looks like you found some great stores up there, but alas, when I re-read you wrote Eureka Springs. Not Eureka, California. No worries, now I know I need to get out to Arkansas. It looks lovely. Thanks!
