Sad News

My old old little kitty is gone.  I seems that he probably died like he lived.  On his own terms.

bugsy

He was a very independent little guy.  Always in trouble when he was younger.  Coming home often bleeding and battered.  Even though he had been “fixed” when he was about six months old.  HE had decided he would be an outside/inside kitty and would FORCE you to let him outside by doing bad things in bad places in the house so that you would kick his behind outside.  On the other hand he was very intuitive and in tune with what was going on in his world.  When one of my other kitties and his best buddy in the world died of disease way before his time, this little guy spent two days laying over his grave howling.  After that loss, he and I became inseparable.

So…..I had been watching his decline for the last couple of months, trying to decide on the best thing  to do for my little kitty.  Although he was rapidly loosing weight, he was still eating, drinking, and seemed happy enough.  He HATED going to the Vet. and it just didn’t seem fair to take him away from the only home he had ever known, drag him somewhere he hated, and have him euthanized.  So I just waited and watched.

Two days ago, he wandered out into the back yard .  I DID contemplate whether it was a good idea, but then thought “he’ll be okay, he’s too old and weak to jump over the fence and he never stays out long these days.”

That would be the last time that we ever saw him.  It seems that he had chosen this day to be his last.  We have looked EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE for that darn kitty cat.   It’s like he has disappeared from the face of the earth!  I have heard of animals going off by themselves when it was their time to die, but never had one of mine do it.

My best guess is that he used his last bit of strength to make it here……..

To his beloved woods behind our house.  We even looked as well as we could in the woods.  It would seem that he just doesn’t want to be found.  We have to stay on the paths as there is tons of poison ivy if you go in too deep.

Only the little cotton tail bunnies who come out to play late in the evening and early in the morning know for sure and they are sworn to secrecy!  Fortunately, there are no other predators in the area so I feel like he probably just found one of his favorite spots, laid down, and closed his eyes.

His name was Bugsy.  I don’t know about you, but I would like to think that my life would end like his did.  On my own terms.

I’ve been keeping myself busy.  I moved things around to make room for my new canvas.

I ended up moving this chest and putting what few pieces of religious art and memorabilia together.

This picture belonged to Hubby’s parents.  I had forgotten that we had it and found it covered in dust some months back.

007

I gathered together a few small things in a jar.

008

This is a prayer card from Hubby’s grandfather’s funeral in 1974.  His grandfather was an Irish immigrant who came to the United States when he was about 18.  He later married a woman who was half Cherokee Indian.  Huummm….. this explains a LOT about my husband.  Irish and Cherokee heritage!

My Santos is happy.  She finally feels like she is where she belongs.

003

I may  have shown you a picture of this prayer card earlier.  I purchased it from someone who embellished it with feathers, beads, and old jewelry.

004

The little shrine idea was Heather’s.  Thanks for the idea Hes.

This sconce has a rooster in the middle, so I just stuck in a couple of vintage cards to cover it.

My new canvas.  I really like it here.  I don’t usually buy things  with any certain spot in mind.  I buy them because I like them.

The tiny Bible in the Santos hand is a real Bible…….if you have great eyes, or a really strong magnifying glass.

Hope you’re having a wonderful week.  In spite of everything, I’m really at peace with the way my little Bugsy choose to end his life.

  2. Your post brought tears to my eyes because this is exactly what happened to my cat last summer. She was sixteen years old, it's amazing how they become such a part of your life.

  3. I'm so sorry you lost your beloved kitty. Anytime we lose a loved one a little piece of us goes missing for a while. I know I will be devastated when it's time for my dogs to leave me. On a happier note...I wanted to say how much I love your blog. You are in my blog roll now, so everyone else can enjoy it to.

  5. Hi Denise, I am so sorry to hear about Bugsy. I bet you really miss him. SO sad, but glad he got to go his "own way." I agree, that's the way to do it!

I love your religious shrine/reliquary/vignette. I ADORE your embellished prayer card. TDF! It's sad we live so far apart, we have SO much in common.

Thank you for stopping by again, and for your well wished for my mom. You my Dear, are a doll!

    Warm Hugs,
